Consol Energy Incorporated. The Group's principal activity is to produce multi-fuel energy, which serves the electric power generation industry in the United States. It operates in two segments Coal and Gas. The principal activities of the Coal unit are mining, preparation and marketing of steam coal, sold primarily to power generators, and metallurgical coal, sold to metal and coke producers. The Coal unit includes four reportable segments. These reportable segments are Northern Appalachian, Central Appalachian, Metallurgical and Other Coal. The principal activity of the Gas unit is to produce pipeline quality methane gas for sale primarily to gas wholesalers. All Other segment includes terminal services, river and dock services, industrial supply services and other business activities, including rentals of buildings and flight operations. The Group operates in the United States, Europe, Canada, South America and Middle East. In July 2007, the Group completed the acquisition of AMVEST Corp.
