United Utilities Group PLC Formerly known as United Utilities PLC. The Group's principal activities are holding and operating water and wastewater assets and managing infrastructure and business processes for other businesses. It provides water and sewage services to a population of some seven million people in northwest England. Through its regulated business, it collects and stores water before treating it and delivering it through over 42,000 kilometres of water pipes. This division is responsible for collecting and treating wastewater before returning it safely to the environment. 43,000 kilometres of sewers take the wastewater from homes and industry for treatment at one of 582 wastewater treatment works. The Group's non-regulated business operates and maintains a gas network in the North of England, serving 2.5 million customers. It also operates and maintains the electricity distribution network on behalf of Electricity North East. The Group's other activities relates to property trading and management.
